Current Priorities

Issue

Burglary and Vehicle Crime

Action

It goes without saying that everyone should feel safe in their home, and it is important to underline that the great majority of the time, people’s homes are safe. However, we recognise that burglary is a very traumatic and impactive experience so will prioritise not only the way we respond to reports of burglary, but the way we try to prevent it happening in the first place. We will combine intelligence led proactive patrols, targeting of offenders, crime prevention initiatives and wraparound victim care to focus on reducing the occurrence and impact of burglary.

Our communities can be confident that they live in a relatively safe place. Unfortunately, theft of motor vehicles and theft from motor vehicles can be a problem. Therefore, we will look to combine proactive operations, using overt police tactics and technological initiatives, with bespoke crime prevention methods, to reduce the effect that vehicle crime has on people’s lives and livelihoods.

The LEOS NHT have been performing proactive patrols both high visibility and plain clothes, in areas of high vehicle crime. The focus has been locating suspects and ensuring that the appropriate sanctions are delivered achieving positive criminal justice outcomes.

These patrols have seen drug seizures through stop and searches and the seizure of a stolen motor vehicle on Hobs Moat Road. Within the vehicle was also stolen registration plates and a knife. Enquiries are ongoing to trace the offender who ran away from the vehicle.

Information from the public is vital in helping us direct our patrols to deal with issues that matter to you most.

As part of our Darker Nights campaign LEOS NHT have placed on a community beat surgeries at The Solihull Mosque, JLR Social Club and a pop up event in Solihull Town Centre, where crime prevention advice and handy giveaways such as light timers were provided. The LEOS NHT are always at hand to provide advice and reassurance to the public. If you would like to see a surgery in your area within LEOS then email the team via their designated email address.

Business Crime

Action

Solihull Town Centre with Touchwood, and the neighbouring towns like Shirley, are the heart of the community. We understand the impact that business crime has on our partners and their livelihoods and we pledge to work in concert with the Local Authority and Business Improvement District to tackle business crime more efficiently and promote the well-being of our towns.

The LEOS NHT works closely with local businesses to help deal with crime and ASB affecting their financial earnings and safety of staff and their customers.

Our PCSO dedicated for the Town Centre has been out patrolling with our partners in BID dealing with ASB derived from groups of youths and deterring shoplifting from businesses.

Throughout December we are linking in with Pubs and Clubs to educate them on Violence Against Women and Girls in the lead up to the festive period. We are educating our business partners in applications and initiatives such as Ask Angela, to assist in keeping women and young girls safe in Solihull.

This set of shifts has seen the LEOS NHT engage with numerous local business within the LEOS and town centre listening to and acting on their needs and concerns.
We always encourage businesses to report offences with a view to support any prosecution or out of court disposals if appropriate.

Issue

Domestic Abuse and Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG)

Action

In Solihull, as in the rest of West Midlands Police force area, we are dedicated to tackling and reducing domestic violence wherever it occurs and safeguarding victims from future abuse. We are also committed to raising awareness of VAWG and making our public places as safe as possible so that women and girls can enjoy everything Solihull has to offer with confidence.

LEOS NHT support victims of Domestic Abuse through regular visits where a Domestic Violence Protection Order is in place. These visits further safeguard victims by ensuring DA perpetrators abide by the conditions set out in the DVPO. The team have conducted numerous DVPO checks on their patch this week.

We are working with Solihull Councils Community Safety Partnership supporting them with their 16 Days of Activism. We have held 2 community events this set of shifts with the council focusing on VAWG creating a safe environment for members of the community to approach officers who are prepared to listen to your concerns,

December will see increased activity in the Town Centre from the LEOS NHT offering advice around Violence Against Women and Girls providing a high visibility presence to reassure the public and deal with any incidents.
