Op Hercules – Car cruising across Nechells and wider Local Policing Area (LPA)

The Nechells Neighbourhood Policing Team is collaborating with the Force Traffic Unit and the Roads Harm Reduction Unit to address this issue. We are adopting a pragmatic, intelligence-led approach focused on gathering information and data to guide our efforts.

West Midlands Police have invested in preventing road harm with the use of more digital speed guns and other resources to support road safety and prevent road harm within the Nechells ward.

Serious Youth Violence - Specifically targeting robberies and knife related crime.

The Nechells Ward continue to provide an overall reduction in Serious Youth Violence. There are targeted patrols through Op Guardian that support this work and are continued throughout the year.

Vehicle Crime - Theft of Motor Vehicle, Theft from Motor Vehicle and Car Cannibalism

The Nechells NHT are engaged with multiple workstreams across the community that are designed to reduce the level of vehicle crime.

The team have been in communities, including the Nechells Green area, handing out crime prevention material and devices.

We've also conducted a number of patrols on football match days which have proved successful, with 0 reports of vehicle crime on those particular events being reported on the Nechells ward. We do continue these patrols however, as those reports did increase at the start of the year.

Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB)

ASB is a growing concern in our local area, impacting the residents quality of life.

As a local policing team we acknowledge these ongoing issues and are taking proactive measures through increased patrols alongside local councillors and partner agencies.

We therefore encourage members of the public to report all incidents to identify patterns of behaviour, ensuring every issue is addressed accordingly to create a safer environment and improve our community.

We work closely with the management and customer safety staff of Star City to support their efforts in maintaining an enjoyable and safe experience for local families.

Illegal Drugs: Importation, Cultivation and Consumption.

Like many areas, our local community continues to suffer from the associated problems that drug dealing and use brings.

We continue to utilise stop and search powers to seize drugs intended for personal consumption / street dealing; we act on intelligence to conduct drugs warrants and seize packages illegally imported into our neighbourhood; and we continue to identify and destroy local cultivations and laboratories at the heart of the problem.

The Nechells NHT have successfully executed warrants across February and March 2025 and seized a large quantity of drugs being imported from across the UK and internationally.

Inconsiderate Parking / Obstruction of the Highway.

We understand that the proximity of Nechells to the city-centre, commercial businesses, large education/community centres etc, coupled with the lack of off-street parking for many residents means that inconsiderate parking continues to be a bug-bear of the community. Our PCSOs frequently join forces with Civil Enforcement Officers to discourage selfish abandonment of vehicles.

Please consider others before you park as we continue to deal with vehicles recklessly parked by non-residents.
