Every neighbourhood in Thames Valley has a dedicated Neighbourhood Policing team.

Neighbourhood Policing teams can be contacted via 101, the Thames Valley Police non-emergency number. Always call 999 in an emergency.

Neighbourhood Policing teams…
  • Are led by senior police officers and include police community support officers (PCSOs), often together with volunteer police officers, volunteers and partners.
  • May serve one or several neighbourhoods.
  • Work with local people and partners to identify, tackle and prevent local, low-level crime, anti-social behaviour, and any ongoing concerns.
  • Provide you with a visible, accessible and accountable police service and aim to make your neighbourhood safer.
  • Have been present in every Thames Valley neighbourhood since 1 April 2008.
  • Focus all of their efforts on their dedicated neighbourhoods, building relationships with local people.
Neighbourhood Policing…
  • Needs you to tell us about the issues that concern you in your area.
  • Has transformed policing at a local level, to meet the needs of local communities.
  • Is known as ‘Safer Neighbourhoods’ in Milton Keynes.

Have Your Say logo From the start of 2010, Thames Valley Police extended its neighbourhood consultation by introducing a wider range of publicised opportunities to meet neighbourhood teams.

We will provide open monthly meetings to allow the public to influence our priorities. These meetings will be branded as Have Your Say opportunities, and in many cases will be held in conjunction with partners.

Once local priorities have been identified, a broader ‘toolkit’ of problem-solving tactics is being made available to ensure crime and anti-social behaviour is tackled effectively.

Across the Thames Valley area, there are many successful Neighbourhood Action Groups which will continue to deliver local problem solving, but the introduction of Have Your Say meetings will allow neighbourhood teams to identify more quickly those specific local priorities that need attention.

Thames Valley Police views the introduction of Have Your Say meetings as a positive step in tackling issues that matter most to the public. I welcome your support and engagement in this endeavour.

Current Priorities

Issue

Local residents have reported that burglary is one of their top concerns in the community. This has been seen to be an issue particularly on The Green in Burnham and Hitcham Lane in Taplow.

Action

The team will continue their high visibility patrols around the most targeted areas, utilising late shifts to carry out night and evening patrols.

The team will also seek to engage with any individuals seen around the areas in hours of darkness, who are potentially suspected to be involved with burglary offences.

They will also focus on distributing relevant crime prevention advice to local residents, especially neighbours or people who live near homes that have recently been targeted. This will be done via the regular "Have your say" events held routinely by neighbourhood PCSOs, as well as leaflet drop operations to various neighbourhoods. Dates for future Have your say events will be advertised on this website shortly.
If you have any information please report on 101 or online at www. thamesvalley.police.uk.
Call 999 if crime in progress or you are at risk of harm.

Issue

Anti-social behaviour continues to be highlighted as an area of concern for local residents, particularly in Burnham Park and St Peters park, where individuals loiter and are reported to use drugs.

Action

The neighbourhood team have been focusing high visibility patrols around the parks and green spaces that are reported to be targeted by anti social behaviour. They keep track of these patrols via their hotspot app to ensure all required areas have been covered.

Individuals suspected to be involved in the issues will be stopped and engaged with, and where necessary stopped and searched.

The team will also continue to gather intelligence to build a larger picture in order to identify individuals responsible.

The team also continue their partnership working with the local council, holding meetings and maintaining regular communication to work together in preventing anti-social behaviour in the local community.

Issue

Residents continue to report that high speeds around the area continue to be an issue due to the danger it represents to the local community.

Action

The team will be seeking to speak to local residents regarding which roads are most in need of speed enforcement and action the feedback accordingly. It is currently planned that speed enforcement will be carried out by the neighbourhood team on a monthly basis, by being roadside with speed guns, with the aim to deter speeding and issue tickets to those driving over the speed limit.
