Every neighbourhood in Thames Valley has a dedicated Neighbourhood Policing team.

Neighbourhood Policing teams can be contacted via 101, the Thames Valley Police non-emergency number. Always call 999 in an emergency.

Neighbourhood Policing teams…
  • Are led by senior police officers and include police community support officers (PCSOs), often together with volunteer police officers, volunteers and partners.
  • May serve one or several neighbourhoods.
  • Work with local people and partners to identify, tackle and prevent local, low-level crime, anti-social behaviour, and any ongoing concerns.
  • Provide you with a visible, accessible and accountable police service and aim to make your neighbourhood safer.
  • Have been present in every Thames Valley neighbourhood since 1 April 2008.
  • Focus all of their efforts on their dedicated neighbourhoods, building relationships with local people.
Neighbourhood Policing…
  • Needs you to tell us about the issues that concern you in your area.
  • Has transformed policing at a local level, to meet the needs of local communities.
  • Is known as ‘Safer Neighbourhoods’ in Milton Keynes.

Have Your Say logo From the start of 2010, Thames Valley Police extended its neighbourhood consultation by introducing a wider range of publicised opportunities to meet neighbourhood teams.

We will provide open monthly meetings to allow the public to influence our priorities. These meetings will be branded as Have Your Say opportunities, and in many cases will be held in conjunction with partners.

Once local priorities have been identified, a broader ‘toolkit’ of problem-solving tactics is being made available to ensure crime and anti-social behaviour is tackled effectively.

Across the Thames Valley area, there are many successful Neighbourhood Action Groups which will continue to deliver local problem solving, but the introduction of Have Your Say meetings will allow neighbourhood teams to identify more quickly those specific local priorities that need attention.

Thames Valley Police views the introduction of Have Your Say meetings as a positive step in tackling issues that matter most to the public. I welcome your support and engagement in this endeavour.

Current Priorities

Issue

ASB at Templars Square and Upper Bar, Cowley

Action

Reports from residents and businesses from Templars have continued so this will remain one of our priorities. Over the past few months we have been working robustly to deal with offences that happen in the area and will continue to do so. We have been working with partnership agencies to address licencing issues and to target harden the area. We will be conducting a community survey with the council for the area which will help us measure what areas are improving and which locations need more work. We are trying to obtain more Public Space Protection Order signs for Templars square as well to inform people which could be committing offences. We are also working with licensing teams and are running proactive operations to tackle the issues highlighted.

Issue

Drug crime and Exploitation in and around Hockmore Tower

Action

We are aware of number of issues regarding Hockmore Tower. We are working with numerous partner agencies including Oxford Council to help mitigate any issues that do arise there. We have planned a walk around with housing officers to identify problem areas and to then target harden these areas. We have a large population of vulnerable people who live in the tower and we are committed to safeguarding them as best as we can from things like cuckooing and anti-social behaviour. Hockmore Tower remains a Priority for us and we will continue to act in the best interest of the public. Resolving these issues will provide a positive impact on the residents living within the tower.

Issue

ASB in and the area of WoodFarm

Action

We have listened to the community of Woodfarm and the issue of mopeds riding in an anti-social behaviour has come up. There have been past reports about this and we take this matter seriously and will work robustly to stop these individuals and to identify and act on any offences taking place. We have planned and will be running operations in the area to mitigate this from happening and to catch and deter offenders. We will be working with our roads policing teams and will be looking to work with partnership agencies which could help. The work that we will be doing is in the interest of the public’s welfare and safety.
