Every neighbourhood in Thames Valley has a dedicated Neighbourhood Policing team.

Neighbourhood Policing teams can be contacted via 101, the Thames Valley Police non-emergency number. Always call 999 in an emergency.

Neighbourhood Policing teams…
  • Are led by senior police officers and include police community support officers (PCSOs), often together with volunteer police officers, volunteers and partners.
  • May serve one or several neighbourhoods.
  • Work with local people and partners to identify, tackle and prevent local, low-level crime, anti-social behaviour, and any ongoing concerns.
  • Provide you with a visible, accessible and accountable police service and aim to make your neighbourhood safer.
  • Have been present in every Thames Valley neighbourhood since 1 April 2008.
  • Focus all of their efforts on their dedicated neighbourhoods, building relationships with local people.
Neighbourhood Policing…
  • Needs you to tell us about the issues that concern you in your area.
  • Has transformed policing at a local level, to meet the needs of local communities.
  • Is known as ‘Safer Neighbourhoods’ in Milton Keynes.

Have Your Say logo From the start of 2010, Thames Valley Police extended its neighbourhood consultation by introducing a wider range of publicised opportunities to meet neighbourhood teams.

We will provide open monthly meetings to allow the public to influence our priorities. These meetings will be branded as Have Your Say opportunities, and in many cases will be held in conjunction with partners.

Once local priorities have been identified, a broader ‘toolkit’ of problem-solving tactics is being made available to ensure crime and anti-social behaviour is tackled effectively.

Across the Thames Valley area, there are many successful Neighbourhood Action Groups which will continue to deliver local problem solving, but the introduction of Have Your Say meetings will allow neighbourhood teams to identify more quickly those specific local priorities that need attention.

Thames Valley Police views the introduction of Have Your Say meetings as a positive step in tackling issues that matter most to the public. I welcome your support and engagement in this endeavour.

Current Priorities

Issue

Community forum members agreed that drugs remain a priority for the area - this includes drug dealing and possession.

Action

Since September - December 37 drug offences have been recorded in the area. These range from 'simple' possession offences of both Class A and Class B drugs and a variety of disposals have been issued depending on the history of the suspect and the severity of the offence. First time offenders have been issued with community resolutions with a requirement to attend a Drugs Awareness Course. The identified offences are as a result of intelligence submitted to Police and also proactive policing and stop checks where grounds exist.
There have been 2 suspects charged with Possession with intent to supply offences in this time - both awaiting sentencing by the court.
The Neighbourhood Team continue to share information with partner agencies in order to maximise opportunities to deal with this priority.

Issue

Continued priority from the last forum with progress made however more to be done.

Action

The Banbury Neighbourhood Team are tasked with running a minimum of one E-scooter op a month. Other seizures take place as business as usual and monthly figures of E-scooters seized are publicised by TVP.
Op Purchase is the police response to retail crime and the team have held several 'have your say' events at retail outlets to provide reassurance to staff. A Criminal Behaviour Order has been authorised for one particular nominal who is a repeat shoplifting offender who can also be abusive towards staff.
Op Jin is the Neighbourhood Team's response to the Town Centre. The team have issued a number of Community Protection Warnings / Notices to offenders. One nominal is currently on remand for causing damage to a local business, harassing the owners and breaching his CPN. We await an update from the court when he is due to be sentenced later in December.

Issue

Forum members agree that speeding and traffic offences should remain a priority for the area. Particularly the GRIMSBURY forum.

Action

Banbury Neighbourhood Team have run operations alongside Roads Policing and the DVLA to focus on those committing road traffic offences. During the last operation a total of 50 fines were given out by the DVLA with Police seizing 12 vehicles for no insurance. Arrests were made for those driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol and further operations are planned.
Community Speed Watch is still being recommended for the Community to support in this priority.
Safety Camera Van has been placed in the area to assist support too.
