Every neighbourhood in Thames Valley has a dedicated Neighbourhood Policing team.

Neighbourhood Policing teams can be contacted via 101, the Thames Valley Police non-emergency number. Always call 999 in an emergency.

  • Provide you with a visible, accessible and accountable police service and aim to make your neighbourhood safer.
  • Have been present in every Thames Valley neighbourhood since 1 April 2008.
  • Focus all of their efforts on their dedicated neighbourhoods, building relationships with local people.
Neighbourhood Policing…
  • Needs you to tell us about the issues that concern you in your area.
  • Has transformed policing at a local level, to meet the needs of local communities.
  • Is known as ‘Safer Neighbourhoods’ in Milton Keynes.

Have Your Say logo From the start of 2010, Thames Valley Police extended its neighbourhood consultation by introducing a wider range of publicised opportunities to meet neighbourhood teams.

We will provide open monthly meetings to allow the public to influence our priorities. These meetings will be branded as Have Your Say opportunities, and in many cases will be held in conjunction with partners.

Once local priorities have been identified, a broader ‘toolkit’ of problem-solving tactics is being made available to ensure crime and anti-social behaviour is tackled effectively.

Across the Thames Valley area, there are many successful Neighbourhood Action Groups which will continue to deliver local problem solving, but the introduction of Have Your Say meetings will allow neighbourhood teams to identify more quickly those specific local priorities that need attention.

Thames Valley Police views the introduction of Have Your Say meetings as a positive step in tackling issues that matter most to the public. I welcome your support and engagement in this endeavour.

Current Priorities

Issue

While the town centre is the central hub of High Wycombe and a generally busy shopping area, it can attract anti-social behaviour and other criminal activity from individuals who frequent the area, causing concerns for local residents and shop staff. This typically involves offences such as shoplifting, street drinking, aggressive begging, drug activity and any other behaviour that causes alarm.

Action

The Wycombe South team will focus their daily high visibility patrols in the town centre with the aim to detect and deter anti-social behaviour, stopping and engaging with individuals known to regularly cause issues. PCs and PCSOs keep track of these patrols via their hotspot app, which helps with efficiency and ensuring the most high demand areas are being covered.

The team have also been carrying out effective partnership working to decrease shoplifting and other anti-social behaviour. They have strengthened their working relationship with the council and regularly work with the council ASB team, carrying out joint patrols and ensuring frequent communication to share information. The team have also increased their engagement with the local business community. Officers keep in frequent communication with them throughout the day via the shopwatch radios and have been working with them to find solutions on preventing shopliftings and gathering evidence to see more repeat offenders arrested or receiving criminal behaviour orders.
The town centre remains a fixed priority for the Wycombe neighbourhood team, officers will continue to explore new options and partnership working to ensure top community safety in the area.

Issue

As per our community survey, residents have highlighted drug offences as one of their top concerns. Current drug related issues we are seeing includes cocooning, this is the process of a vulnerable person’s address being taken over by drug dealers to use their homes as a base for drug dealing activity. The team are also dealing with reports of drugs being smoked within homes from neighbours who are bothered by the smells and possible related anti-social behaviour.

Action

When it comes to suspected drug dealing and drug line operations, the team will seek to gather strong intelligence on individuals, addresses and vehicles that could possibly be associated. With this, they seek to disrupt drug operations and carry out search warrants in order to arrest and charge those involved with drug dealing and drug possession.
The team have also increased their utilisation of closure orders on addresses identified to be causing repeat issues and anti-social behaviour linked to drugs. There are currently 4 in place. To achieve a closure order, the team will collaborate with partner agencies such as the council and housing associations. Routinely the closure orders last 3 months and can be extended for a further 3 months if needed. The purpose of this is to stop individuals frequently coming and going from the address, prohibit disruptive behaviour and in some cases even expel the resident living there.
For people committing other drug offences such as smoking cannabis at home, if we receive reports and there is corroborative evidence that this is taking place, the team have been seeking to give warnings and put community protection notices in place to prevent the behaviour.

Issue

Speeding continues to be highlighted as a top issue for local residents. Particularly in the Cressex area, residents have raised concerns about high speeds that may possibly endanger others and disturb the community.

Action

The neighbourhood sergeant has ensured members of the neighbourhood team have been trained to use speed guns. Following this, monthly operations have been put in place to conduct speed checks on roads identified to have the most issues. Checks have recently been carried out in Cressex in which multiple tickets were issue for high speeds on a 30MPH road.
