Neighbourhood Policing teams…- Are led by senior police officers and include police community support officers (PCSOs), often together with volunteer police officers, volunteers and partners.
- May serve one or several neighbourhoods.
- Work with local people and partners to identify, tackle and prevent local, low-level crime, anti-social behaviour, and any ongoing concerns.
- Provide you with a visible, accessible and accountable police service and aim to make your neighbourhood safer.
- Have been present in every Thames Valley neighbourhood since 1 April 2008.
- Focus all of their efforts on their dedicated neighbourhoods, building relationships with local people.
- Needs you to tell us about the issues that concern you in your area.
- Has transformed policing at a local level, to meet the needs of local communities.
- Is known as ‘Safer Neighbourhoods’ in Milton Keynes.
From the start of 2010, Thames Valley Police extended its neighbourhood consultation by introducing a wider range of publicised opportunities to meet neighbourhood teams.
We will provide open monthly meetings to allow the public to influence our priorities. These meetings will be branded as Have Your Say opportunities, and in many cases will be held in conjunction with partners.
Once local priorities have been identified, a broader ‘toolkit’ of problem-solving tactics is being made available to ensure crime and anti-social behaviour is tackled effectively.
Across the Thames Valley area, there are many successful Neighbourhood Action Groups which will continue to deliver local problem solving, but the introduction of Have Your Say meetings will allow neighbourhood teams to identify more quickly those specific local priorities that need attention.
Thames Valley Police views the introduction of Have Your Say meetings as a positive step in tackling issues that matter most to the public. I welcome your support and engagement in this endeavour.

Current Priorities
Issue
As per the community survey, local residents continue to specify anti-social behaviour as being one of their top concerns for the Totteridge and Micklefield area. This includes issues such as individuals loitering and using drugs in carparks or near garages close to people's homes and disturbing local residents with noise as well, there is also increased reports of individuals driving in ways residents see as disruptive or dangerous to the community .
Action
The Wycombe East neighbourhood team carry out daily patrols around areas identified to be most effected by anti-social behaviour. They keep track of these on their hotspot app to ensure all required areas have been covered. The purpose of these patrols are to detect offenders and deter further offending, with the patrols often being tailored around reports they have received. The team will also seek to stop and engage with individuals that are suspected to be causing issues in the area.
Following reports on anti-social behaviour in areas of residence, the team have been carrying out partnership working with the housing associations to work together on solutions. There has recently been issues of youths getting into the communal areas of local blocks of flats, in which neighbourhood PCSOs have worked with Red Kite to secure the doors and give local residents advice and reassurance.
The Wycombe East team have also been carrying out regular school talks, giving them the opportunity to speak with young people in the area and educate them around anti-social behaviour and how they can keep themselves safe in their community.
Issue
As per our community survey, residents have highlighted drug offences as one of their top concerns, with increased reports coming from the Totteridge and Micklefield areas. Current drug related issues we are seeing includes cocooning, this is the process of a vulnerable person’s address being taken over by drug dealers to use their homes as a base for drug dealing activity. The team are also dealing with reports of drugs being smoked within homes from neighbours who are bothered by the smells and possible related anti-social behaviour.
Action
When it comes to suspected drug dealing and drug lines, the team will seek to gather strong intelligence on individuals, addresses and vehicles that could possibly be associated in order to be able to disrupt operations and carry out warrants on addresses.
The team have also increased their utilisation of closure orders on addresses identified to be causing repeat issues and anti-social behaviour linked to drugs. There are currently 4 in place. To achieve a closure order, the team will collaborate with partner agencies such as the council and housing associations. Routinely the closure orders last 3 months and can be extended for a further 3 months if needed. The purpose of a closure order is to stop individuals frequently coming and going from the address, prohibit disruptive behaviour and in some cases even expel the resident living there.
For people committing other drug offences such as smoking cannabis at home, if we receive reports and there is evidence and corroboration this is taking place, the team have been seeking to give warnings and put community protection notices in place to prevent the behaviour.
If you have any information please report on 101 or online at www. thamesvalley.police.uk.
Call 999 if a crime is in progress or you are at risk of harm.
Issue
Speeding continues to be highlighted as a top issue for local residents. Particularly on Amersham Hill, Arnison Avenue and Hatters Lane, residents have raised concerns about high speeds that may possibly endanger others and disturb the community.
Action
The neighbourhood sergeant has ensured members of the neighbourhood team have been trained to use speed guns. Following this, monthly operations have been put in place to conduct speed checks on roads identified to have the most issues. Checks have recently been carried out on Amersham Hill and Hatters Lane in which multiple tickets were issue for high speeds on a 30MPH road.
If you have any information please report on 101 or online at www. thamesvalley.police.uk.
