Every neighbourhood in Thames Valley has a dedicated Neighbourhood Policing team.

Neighbourhood Policing teams can be contacted via 101, the Thames Valley Police non-emergency number. Always call 999 in an emergency.

Neighbourhood Policing teams…
  • Are led by senior police officers and include police community support officers (PCSOs), often together with volunteer police officers, volunteers and partners.
  • May serve one or several neighbourhoods.
  • Work with local people and partners to identify, tackle and prevent local, low-level crime, anti-social behaviour, and any ongoing concerns.
  • Provide you with a visible, accessible and accountable police service and aim to make your neighbourhood safer.
  • Have been present in every Thames Valley neighbourhood since 1 April 2008.
  • Focus all of their efforts on their dedicated neighbourhoods, building relationships with local people.
Neighbourhood Policing…
  • Needs you to tell us about the issues that concern you in your area.
  • Has transformed policing at a local level, to meet the needs of local communities.
  • Is known as ‘Safer Neighbourhoods’ in Milton Keynes.

Have Your Say logo From the start of 2010, Thames Valley Police extended its neighbourhood consultation by introducing a wider range of publicised opportunities to meet neighbourhood teams.

We will provide open monthly meetings to allow the public to influence our priorities. These meetings will be branded as Have Your Say opportunities, and in many cases will be held in conjunction with partners.

Once local priorities have been identified, a broader ‘toolkit’ of problem-solving tactics is being made available to ensure crime and anti-social behaviour is tackled effectively.

Across the Thames Valley area, there are many successful Neighbourhood Action Groups which will continue to deliver local problem solving, but the introduction of Have Your Say meetings will allow neighbourhood teams to identify more quickly those specific local priorities that need attention.

Thames Valley Police views the introduction of Have Your Say meetings as a positive step in tackling issues that matter most to the public. I welcome your support and engagement in this endeavour.

Current Priorities

Issue

Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) around public amenities in Wargrave involving drug use.

Action

Wokingham North Neighbourhood Policing Teams took part in national Anti-social Behaviour Awareness Week from 18th to 24th November. During the week, officers performed various walk arounds at reported ASB hotspots alongside the ASB Team from Wokingham Borough Council. Concerns were shared and heard, with plans set in motion to make improvements where needed to better disrupt and deter ASB in the area.

The Neighbourhood Policing Team have been patrolling the identified hotspot areas and have seen a decrease in the usage of drugs in these areas. Please continue to report any issues so we can identify more areas to patrol.

The Neighbourhood Policing Team have conducted high visibility patrols both on foot and in vehicles around identified hotspot areas. Recent patrols have been conducted around King George V Recreation Ground and Milestone Avenue. We will continue to work with partner agencies such as the ASB Team at Wokingham Borough Council to solve issues caused by antisocial behaviour.

Issue

Concerns around general speeding and traffic complaints in Broad Hinton and Whistley Green. These include the breach of local Traffic Regulation Orders (an official order (bylaw) made by a local authority that details the nature and extent of traffic restrictions in a certain area).

Action

Officers continue to target speed enforcement in areas the team have identified as well as areas the public have suggested with speed guns and other deterrents.
Police Officers from the Wokingham North Policing Team have been conducting speed enforcement in the Hurst area.

Community Speedwatch is a national initiative where proactive members of local communities join with the support and supervision of their local police to record details of speeding vehicles using approved detection devices. To join a local Community Speedwatch group and be involved in tackling speed related issues, please visit:

Issue

Anti-social Behaviour (ASB) and thefts in Twyford High Street and main shopping areas.

Action

PCSOs Brown and Emmett along with PC Saunders, hosted a Have Your Say in Twyford during national ASB Awareness Week which ran from 18th to 24th November in order to hear directly from the community about their ASB concerns and experiences.

In early August, PCSO Brown organised an operation in Twyford to focus on the ASB reports the team have been receiving.
The Neighbourhood Team have conducted high visibility patrols both on foot and in vehicles in and around identified hotspot areas in Twyford High Street and main shopping areas. We are working with local shops to identify and deal with repeat offenders. We are still looking into the possibility of implementing a local Shopwatch scheme which allows businesses to communicate about ASB and thefts and share information as appropriate to support businesses and keep residents safe.
