Every neighbourhood in Thames Valley has a dedicated Neighbourhood Policing team.

Neighbourhood Policing teams can be contacted via 101, the Thames Valley Police non-emergency number. Always call 999 in an emergency.

Neighbourhood Policing teams…
  • Are led by senior police officers and include police community support officers (PCSOs), often together with volunteer police officers, volunteers and partners.
  • May serve one or several neighbourhoods.
  • Work with local people and partners to identify, tackle and prevent local, low-level crime, anti-social behaviour, and any ongoing concerns.
  • Provide you with a visible, accessible and accountable police service and aim to make your neighbourhood safer.
  • Have been present in every Thames Valley neighbourhood since 1 April 2008.
  • Focus all of their efforts on their dedicated neighbourhoods, building relationships with local people.
Neighbourhood Policing…
  • Needs you to tell us about the issues that concern you in your area.
  • Has transformed policing at a local level, to meet the needs of local communities.
  • Is known as ‘Safer Neighbourhoods’ in Milton Keynes.

Have Your Say logo From the start of 2010, Thames Valley Police extended its neighbourhood consultation by introducing a wider range of publicised opportunities to meet neighbourhood teams.

We will provide open monthly meetings to allow the public to influence our priorities. These meetings will be branded as Have Your Say opportunities, and in many cases will be held in conjunction with partners.

Once local priorities have been identified, a broader ‘toolkit’ of problem-solving tactics is being made available to ensure crime and anti-social behaviour is tackled effectively.

Across the Thames Valley area, there are many successful Neighbourhood Action Groups which will continue to deliver local problem solving, but the introduction of Have Your Say meetings will allow neighbourhood teams to identify more quickly those specific local priorities that need attention.

Thames Valley Police views the introduction of Have Your Say meetings as a positive step in tackling issues that matter most to the public. I welcome your support and engagement in this endeavour.

Current Priorities

Issue

Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB)

Action

The Henley Neighbourhood team continue to respond to areas and incidents highlighted by the public. This has included Hotspot patrolling in the Town Centre and Mill Meadows resulting in successful stop searches for controlled drugs. The team have secured a prosecution for possession of a controlled substance from a prolific shoplifter in the town. The team have also responded to complaints of anti-social use of eScooters and off road motorbikes with several days of action taken place. Reports of anti-social behaviour occurring in and around the town have had school and Police intervention with those responsible identified. The three secondary schools that sit within the Henley area are keen to work with police to reduce anti-social behaviour / offending and support police intervention.

Issue

Violence Against Women and Girls

Action

The team continue to patrol the Night Time Economy across our area, supporting colleagues from response policing. We continue to work alongside the local Pubwatch scheme to help make the Night Time economy across the area a safer place to enjoy an evening out for all.
The night time economy in the town has been largely without incident with only one arrest in the last month.
After a year of discussion, Henley will have its own Branch of the “Street Pastors” who work with the Police during busier periods within the Town. Based at D2 the street pastors will commence patrols in the town on the 3rd May and assist on every pay day weekend, making sure the most vulnerable get home safely.

Issue

Retail Crime

Action

The team have been successful securing multiple charges for shoplifting offences in the last quarter. The team conducted a week of action targeting retail criminals, repeat offenders and visiting stores to promote best practice in security and reporting. We continue to promote the DISC App, an application that retailers can use to share images of offenders and report offences directly to police.
The team have uplifted their patrols in the local parishes, especially the parishes with train stations. This is due to repeat offenders using the trains for the transport into and out of local areas. As we look forward, a joint operation will be conducted with British Transport Police conducting a joint effort to collect evidence and catch the individuals involved in criminal activity.
