Every neighbourhood in Thames Valley has a dedicated Neighbourhood Policing team.

Neighbourhood Policing teams can be contacted via 101, the Thames Valley Police non-emergency number. Always call 999 in an emergency.

Neighbourhood Policing teams…
  • Are led by senior police officers and include police community support officers (PCSOs), often together with volunteer police officers, volunteers and partners.
  • May serve one or several neighbourhoods.
  • Work with local people and partners to identify, tackle and prevent local, low-level crime, anti-social behaviour, and any ongoing concerns.
  • Provide you with a visible, accessible and accountable police service and aim to make your neighbourhood safer.
  • Have been present in every Thames Valley neighbourhood since 1 April 2008.
  • Focus all of their efforts on their dedicated neighbourhoods, building relationships with local people.
Neighbourhood Policing…
  • Needs you to tell us about the issues that concern you in your area.
  • Has transformed policing at a local level, to meet the needs of local communities.
  • Is known as ‘Safer Neighbourhoods’ in Milton Keynes.

Have Your Say logo From the start of 2010, Thames Valley Police extended its neighbourhood consultation by introducing a wider range of publicised opportunities to meet neighbourhood teams.

We will provide open monthly meetings to allow the public to influence our priorities. These meetings will be branded as Have Your Say opportunities, and in many cases will be held in conjunction with partners.

Once local priorities have been identified, a broader ‘toolkit’ of problem-solving tactics is being made available to ensure crime and anti-social behaviour is tackled effectively.

Across the Thames Valley area, there are many successful Neighbourhood Action Groups which will continue to deliver local problem solving, but the introduction of Have Your Say meetings will allow neighbourhood teams to identify more quickly those specific local priorities that need attention.

Thames Valley Police views the introduction of Have Your Say meetings as a positive step in tackling issues that matter most to the public. I welcome your support and engagement in this endeavour.

Current Priorities

Issue

Street Drinking Aylesbury Town Centre

Action

The neighbourhood policing team have received several reports of street drinking in Aylesbury Town centre. We are conducting high visibility daily patrols with the council street wardens and engaging with all street drinkers to confiscate alcohol and deter this behaviour. There has been a clear reduction in street drinkers and reports of related ASB in the town centre.
We continue to work with the town council and the council ASB officer to address the issues caused by the street drinkers and concerns raised by the public. This issue
has improved but will remain an ongoing priority to prevent re-occurance of previous incidents.
If you have any information please report on 101 or online at www.thamesvalley.police.uk.
Always call 999 if you are at risk of any harm.

Issue

Anti-Social Behaviour including begging and shoplifting, near Macdonalds and Poundland

Action

The town centre neighbourhood policing team continue to deal with reduced reports of begging and shoplifting incidents in the area. We are conducting hi visibility patrols and working with the retail staff to identify offenders and keep retail staff safe. Regular patrols have resulted in a decrease in begging with only occasional incidents involving out of area beggars, who are quickly dealt with. We are working with McDonalds to issue and enforce banning letters to repeat offenders. During safer business week 20 retailers signed up to DISC, a new shop watch scheme to enable collaborative working amongst the police and retailers. Even though action has resulted in a reduction in incidents the team will keep this as a priority to prevent re-occurance at previous levels.
If you have any information report via 101 or online at www.thamesvalley.police.uk.
Call 999 if crime in progress or you are at risk of harm.

Issue

Anti-Social Behaviour Walton Street Car Park Aylesbury involving car meets and rough sleepers.

Action

We have received reports of ASB in the car park, including car meets, false fire alarm activation and rough sleepers.
The neighbourhood policing team are conducting regular hi visibility patrols and working with the local council ASB officer to deter this behaviour. The council have now placed security guards in the car park every night and increased daytime patrols with the police. This has seen a decrease in ASB in the car park and a reduction in car meets. Ongoing patrols and monitoring will continue to prevent re-occurance of previous incident levels.
If you have any information report on 101 or online at www.thamesvalley.police.uk.
Call 999 if crime in progress or you are at risk of harm.

Issue

Partial Closure Order Heron House, Buckingham Street, Aylesbury

Action

Due to welfare concerns and drug related activity the neighbourhood team obtained a partial closure order to protect the residents. We are conducting regular patrols and checks at the address to ensure no breach and engage and support the victim. We will continue to monitor this address to prevent re-occurance or breach of the order.
