Neighbourhood Policing in South Yorkshire provides communities with Teams of dedicated, local Police Officers together with Police Community Support Officers, who listen to and work with the public, community groups, partner agencies and businesses to reduce crime, protect the vulnerable and enhance community safety through problem-solving approaches.
SYP’s Neighbourhood Policing promises are to:-
• Include a number of organisations working in partnership and with the public to deliver results in a joint way;
• Protect the vulnerable through early intervention and prevention;
• Proactively understand and prevent crime and harm by working together to solve problems, identifying offenders and people at most risk of harm;
• Tackle crime and antisocial behaviour; and
• Engage and communicate effectively with communities by listening to and prioritising concerns helping us to understand the issues that matter the most.
Every neighbourhood in South Yorkshire has a dedicated Neighbourhood Policing Team (NHP) that works together with the local community to protect the vulnerable, tackle crime and antisocial behaviour, engage and communicate effectively with communities and enhance community safety through problem solving partnership approaches, days of action and enforcement.

Current Priorities
Issue
There has been in increase in both residential and commercial burglaries in the Wath and Hoober Wards. Working with other SYP departments, we are seeking to increase patrols overnight and at key times, to improve public awareness of the issue and encourage crime prevention techniques for the community, and to tackle offending with positive action at all reported breaks investigations.
Action
PCSO are completing cocooning at all reported residential burglaries - this means that neighbouring addresses will be visited and crime prevention advice given following a confirmed break in. We will also offer crime prevention advice at community events we are in attendance at. Our response teams have been briefed on key locations and times for patrols. With our investigation teams, we seek to identify and arrest offenders promptly.
Issue
We receive regular reports of nuisance bikes in the Wath area - particularly around Sandymount Rd and the White Bear Estate. These are raised via members of the public contacting the Police, or via Ward Councillors.
Action
The issues are being discussed with partners and local Councillors within the CAP meetings that take place. With partners, we are seeking to reduce access, raise awareness, increase reporting and intelligence to allow us to target offenders and seize bikes. Our aim is to reduce the opportunity to use the bikes in the area, and target those causing the nuisance. This is being managed within a POP plan - a problem orientated police plan, with RMBC, SYP Rural crime and off road bike team and the NPT. We will be having joint operations to tackle offenders in the area and undertaking work to develop intelligence to support this operation.
