Current Priorities
Issue
Anti-Social Behaviour in Wallsend Town Centre and Wallsend Metro. Focus on individuals causing disorder while intoxicated.
Action
Neighbourhood team concentrated on working with off licence retailers to educate them around sales of alcohol to intoxicated customers. We've been issuing Community Protection Notices to individuals loitering and begging in the town centre. NPT worked in partnership with the local authority to obtain a Closure Order, which was granted against an address linked to ASB in the area that then led to reduced complaints.
Issue
Motorcycle crime and disorder in Wallsend, Howdon and Battle Hill
Action
We have introduced Op Apollo as a response to reports of motorcycle theft and anti-social Behaviour associated with off road unregistered vehicles.
Neighbourhood officers have worked with the burglary team to identify suspects responsible for the theft of motorcycles across the area, which has led to arrests of several suspects and the recovery of stolen vehicles. NPT have further targeted addresses linked to motorbike ASB with vehicles identified and seized for road traffic offences.
Issue
Retail crime and shoplifting in Battle Hill and Wallsend Town Centre
Action
Officers carried out engagement with retailers to improve reporting. Then targeted named prolific offenders, using stop and search powers to recover stolen property, capturing evidence using new technology to quickly gather CCTV evidence. This resulted in the successful prosecutions of identified suspects with outcomes including custodial sentences, community orders and fines.
