Current Priorities

Issue

Motorcycle disorder around Wardley, Leam Lane, Beacon Lough East and Whitehills Nature reserve.

Action

The police drone has been used to identify key offenders, who have then been visited by Gateshead Council.

Officers are conducting high visibility patrols at key times and community engagement events are underway to promote ways to report criminal activity. This has shown a significant reduction in incidents of anti-social behaviour and disorder.

Issue

Anti-social behaviour, begging and shoplifting around Wrekenton High Street.

Action

Partnership engagement with Gateshead Council and retail premises in the area to identify those responsible. Consultation with local community groups has been undertaken. High visibility patrols have been conducted at key times. Closure orders have been imposed on problematic premises.

Policing tools including dispersal notices and Community Protection Notices have resulted in reduced reports of shoplifting and increased community confidence.

Issue

Anti-social behaviour and serious violent crime around Poets Estate, Sunderland Road, Gateshead.

Action

Partnership engagement has been a key priority with Gateshead Council and Nexus in the area. Quarterly ‘police and community together’ meetings with local community groups and Councillors at the Salvation Army premises. The neighbourhood team have deployed the knife arch at Gateshead Stadium Metro Station and high visibility patrols have been conducted at key times.

Closure orders are now imposed on problematic premises whilst dispersal notices and Community Protection Notices have been used to disrupt those responsible.
