Road Safety & Road Traffic Offences
Action
In April, we set three local policing priorities – Road Safety & Road Traffic Offences, Vehicle Crime and Burglary.
These were based on what local people told us concerned them most in their neighbourhood, as well as local crime statistics and
information from our partners (such as the local council).
These priorities have been the focus of much of our work over the last few months and below is an update about some of the
work we have been doing to tackle them.
• We joined Northants Fire in delivering an input to local Public Services Course students. This involved how they would respond
to a road traffic collision.
• We worked with Ministry of Defence Police and Safer Roads Team at United States Airforce Base Croughton. Providing US
Airforce personnel with advice and information about vehicle documentation and understanding in relation to road worthiness
for vehicles used on UK roads. 60+ vehicles were seen and checked as part of this initiative.
• Our Special Constables have also given up their time in completing operations targeting traffic issues and dealt with numerous
drivers for minor offences with a number of breath tests completed.
We completed commercial vehicle enforcement at Jack’s Hill Café on the A5 near Towcester. Drivers were spoken with and
vehicles checked. During the morning, officers dealt with one immigration offence and 3 insecure loads.
• We have focused on takeaway delivery drivers in the Brackley area after you told us that many drivers did not have the correct
insurance. During this period officers seized 3 vehicles and reported the drivers for offences. Information leaflets were
delivered to fast-food establishments. The staff gave good feedback in terms of understanding the requirements.
• Throughout the period officers have responded to local complaints of speeding in a number of locations across the South
Northants area and deployed the mobile speed Camera and completed data capture to accurately record if the issue were as
reported. You have told us about concerns in respect of E-Scooters and a number of persons have been spoken to in relation to
the use of these – further advice for the use of E-Scooters can be found here: e-scooter usage
• Our Police Cadets completed vehicle security checks on the street in Middleton Cheney and Brackley. Approximately 10% of
vehicles checked were found to be unlocked and vulnerable to theft from property within.
• We held a surgery held outside Toolstation in Brackley offering advice to van owners and other trades people for vehicle and
tool security
