Issue

Town Centre Thefts / ASB

Harrogate Inner Neighbourhood Team have continued working towards reducing the ASB linked to street drinking by Wesley Chapel and outside of the Halifax bank in addition to continuing to tackle retail thefts. There has been an increase in high visibility patrols and several arrests made following the identification of the issues. Police are also collaboratively working with Operation Hotspot which is a national response to ASB.

Action

Continued visible police patrols in the Harrogate town centre area to combat anti-social behaviour and street drinking. Partnership working is on-going to offer advice and signpost rough sleepers and street drinkers towards help and support.

Issue

Project Spotlight is a multi-agency, intelligence led, targeted approach to deal with crime and anti-social behaviour within Harrogate.
The priorities of Project Spotlight are:
•To listen and engage with communities and businesses.
•To tackle retail and business crime.
•To deal with crime and anti-social behaviour
•To support vulnerable people

Action

A mixture of high visibility and plain clothes patrols being carried out in the identified areas of Harrogate town centre. These patrols are continuing on a regular basis in order to reduce crime, ASB and to protect the vulnerable. Teams whilst on patrol will engage with security teams and CCTV operatives to encourage reporting of suspicious activity.

Issue

Op Balaclava

This operation has been created to target and reduce vehicle crime in particular. This will include theft of motor vehicles, theft from motor vehicles and attempted burglary incidents in the Harrogate area where car keys are typically sought. Using a range of tactics to combat these types of incidents, officers will be utilising both visible and plain clothes patrols targeting the hotspot areas which have been identified by analysing crime statistics and building a local intelligence picture.

Action

Targeted patrols are being conducted throughout evening shifts after dark utilising both plain clothes and a visible police presence. This is to deter criminality and to combat it should it arise. Particular attention is being paid to cross border criminality.

Issue

Op Thaw

This Operation has been set up due to boiler thefts taking place at new building sites located along the A1 corridor. NPT departments from various areas have been working together to tackle this issue. This includes visiting each new build site and applying features onto the boilers which would assist in their identification along with offering crime prevention advice to site operatives/managers.

Action

Visible police patrols throughout morning and evening shift. This includes visiting new home building sites, attending and engaging with site staff and offering advice and support regarding maximising site security. Specialist operation departments are involved and assisting with patrols in and around the new build site areas when available.

Issue

Op VERNAL -
OP Vernal was recently introduced due to the ongoing violent disorder which has swept across the country. A large number of officers have been part of the ongoing operation providing a large scale visible presence in areas identified as potential targets in North Yorkshire alongside providing mutual aid to other Police Forces around the country.

Action

A large number of North Yorkshire Police Officers have been deployed to combat the disorder and deter it from taking place in and around the county whilst also assisting other forces with disorder they have been experiencing.

Issue

Op Hamlet – OP Hamlet has been created in response to the recent rise in violence between feuding county line drug gangs in the Harrogate area. HAMLET was created to target known nominal's in Harrogate and to proactively patrol and disrupt drug activity. Using a range of tactics to combat these types of incidents, officers will be utilising both visible and plain clothes patrols targeting the hotspot areas which have been identified by analysing crime statistics and building a local intelligence picture alongside partnership work to disrupt local nominal s known to North Yorkshire Police.

Action

Targeted patrols are being conducted throughout officer’s shifts utilising both plain clothes and visible police uniform. This is to deter criminality with particular attention on drug related activities. A range of police resources are being utilised for Op Hamlet including North Yorkshire Police road policing team, Operational support units and the firearms department.

Issue

Op TARLAC -
Op Tarlac,has been established due to the conflict that has been taking place in the Middle East between Israel and Hamas. Antisemitism, racial, and faith-based discrimination will not be tolerated in any form and active patrols are being carried out by officers throughout shift time to provide reassurance and a deterrent to any such behaviour.

Action

Officers have been visiting Synagogues across the county to provide reassurance and safety advice. These patrols vary depending on pray times and events being held. These patrols will continue to take place in order to provide safety and reassurance to the local community.
