Issue
Robbery / Weapons: This includes all hotspot areas where members of the public are getting robbed of mobile phones, watches and other items mainly around Tooley Street, Borough High Street, St Thomas Street and Tower Bridge Road. This can be from knife point robberies to cycle enabled phone snatches
Action
There is a regular high-visibility police presence in the area to detect and deter criminal activity. The Safer Neighbourhood Team offer crime prevention advice to members of the public. The team conduct weapon sweeps regularly to in order to remove hidden weapons and prevent their potential use in violent crime.
Issue
Drug dealers and drug users getting into the resident blocks with needles. This has been very intimidating for residents especially with many blocks not having security doors.
Action
The Safer Neighbourhoods Team conduct regular patrols within the estate and the internal communal and service areas. Working closely with Southwark council conducting joint patrols with estate wardens, housing officers and the Southwark Anti-Social Behaviour Unit. Where the situation presents, we promptly deal with people committing crime and Anti-Social Behaviour both there and then and use community protection powers to solve the issues in the longer term.
Issue
Beggars, Rough sleepers and street drinkers across the ward though mainly Borough High Street, London Bridge station area and Tooley Street causing various Anti-social Behaviour such as rowdiness around shop areas and mess left near residential areas as well drug use.
Action
The team conduct regular engagement activity with the Street Population sign posting them to services in order to house and rehabilitate. Joint patrols with a specialist NHS nurse dedicated to the Street Population, drugs and alcohol support workers, charity outreach workers and the Street Population lead for Southwark Council. Those committing crime or anti-social behaviour are dealt with appropriately
