The Shepshed and Loughborough West neighbourhood beat is mainly a collaboration of commercial, residential and rural environments.  The housing in the area consists of both privately owned and local authority operated homes.  The M1 motorway runs through the middle of the beat and provides excellent transport links for the area.

There are a total of nine schools in the area and these include primary, junior and secondary schools and colleges both in Shepshed and on the west side of Loughborough.

Issue

Retail theft on the beat has increased significantly compared to last year's figures.

Action

The beat team will work with local retailers to ensure the offences are reported to us and evidence gathered in a timely manner to pursue persistent offenders.
The beat team have been working closely with the stores that are most affected, ensuring all evidence is gathered.
The have conducted regular reassurance patrols at several stores across the beat.
Update:
The beat team continue to work closely with the local stores and carry out reassurance patrols on a regular basis. We are seeing positive results with one prolific offender pleading guilty at court and awaiting sentencing.

Update
The 64 beat team have been engaging with our local retailers during their regular patrols and visits, encouraging them to report any thefts so we can tackle those responsible.

Update:
The beat continue to make regular visits to stores affected for reassurance and to deter offences. Each store now has pro-forma statements with an explanation of how to complete them so the CCTV can be downloaded with a statement ready for officers to collect. Again encouragement given to stores to report all thefts and to do so at the time.

A regular shoplifter recently released from prison who targets Co-op in Loughborough and the two in Shepshed has entered a store despite having court conditions to not do so. He is now wanted for breaching his conditions.

Another regular shoplifter, has been charged with 16 offences most of which are theft stores and has been remanded in custody awaiting his next court date.

One of our prolific shoplifters was sentenced to 22 months in prison and given a Criminal Behaviour Order not to enter parts of Shepshed.
As a result, the local shops have reported a drop in thefts. However, we continue to patrol and support the retailers.

The beat team have maintained regular contact with the stores in Shepshed and Knighthorpe Rd and they continue to report a drop in shop thefts. We have held beat surgeries in the stores as an added deterrent to would be thieves.

Our patrols of the retail stores on the beat has intensified and we are working closely with staff to identify issues and help solve them. Like new security doors at a large supermarket.
The new supermarket has opened in Shepshed and we have already them visited to offer advice and support and build a rapport.

Retail theft across the beat has dropped compared to last month but one of our persistent offenders has recently been released from prison, so we will remain vigilant and work closely with retailers.
We have seen an increase in shoplifting at Morrisons and we are working with them to address the upturn.

Another of our prolific shop lifters has been charged and remanded by the courts, meaning our thefts have dropped off. Daily patrols continue around our retail premises and we are still trying to catch offenders quickly before they become a problem.

Our local shops have reported an increase in thefts again, some are investing in bodycams which helps us identify offenders. Early identification allows us to arrest these people before they can carry out multiple thefts. We'd encourage anyone to report thefts to staff in the stores so these thieves can be captured on camera and brought to justice.

Update 25/03/25
Regular visits to stores are being conducted by the team, to ensure that local retailers continue to report incidents to us, and are supplying evidence in a timely manner to enable colleagues to pursue persistent offenders, This month a male who targeted Tesco in Shepshed has been charged in relation to theft and has been remanded to prison.
We has some positive news last week when the Magistrates Court granted a new 3 year Criminal Behaviour Order to a prolific shoplifter. This means they are banned from all but a few shops within the Loughborough/Shepshed area. A lot of work had gone into securing this Order but it will assist in tackling the problem.

Issue

There has been an increase in reports of drug dealing.

Action

The team have been gathering intelligence and speaking to the local community about the issues around drugs. We will be targeting those involved in drug dealing and working with partners to deal robustly with them.
The beat team have been focusing on gathering and developing intelligence with a view to obtaining warrants. We have been working with Forest House surgery to look at the problems jointly and look forward to working with them in the future.
We continue to receive intelligence around our drug problem which is encouraging and we look to develop it in order to target these individuals. The community's engagement helps us assist the vulnerable who are being exploited by drug users and dealers but also target those involved in dealing.

Update 25/03/25
The team continue to gather intelligence from the local community regarding the supply of drugs across the beat area. This month 3 warrants have been executed in Shepshed, resulting in 3 individuals being
arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of class A drugs, with 2 further individuals being arrested on the Dishley area of the beat for being in possession of class A drugs.
There was also positive news on Friday this week when the beat team executed a warrant, recovering a large amount of drugs and cash. A male was arrested and the investigation is ongoing.
