Current Priorities
Issue
You Said – Residential Burglaries is a priority for those living in the Burbage area. With the evenings remaining darker than they do in the summer residents continue to fear being a victim of Burglary. Properties in Burbage are seen as more appealing and historically the area has a higher number of reported break ins than neighbouring areas such as Hinckley, Barwell and Earl Shilton.
Action
We Did – Preventing and Detecting burglaries across the wider Hinckley area always remains a priority for Leicestershire Police, however for the next 3 months the beat team will also continue to raise this as their local priority offering crime prevention advice and support via social media and all the regular events across the beat.
There were no reports of residential burglary until the end of January. Two reports were received in the final days. These incidents appear to be vehicle related. We have continued with targeted patrols, supporting victims and the local community and ensuring follow up work is completed in order to try and identify vehicles or suspects involved. Whilst there were minimal incidents during January, we are reminding people to stay vigilant.
February - There have been several reports of suspicious persons, officers have attended areas and completed searches. One incident of residential burglary which appears to be vehicle related. We have completed multiple stop searches and targeted patrols.
During the end of February into early March, there has been no further issues regarding burglary. We continue to respond to reports of suspicious persons and stop checks/searches are being completed in the area.
One report of residential burglary during March at the time of writing. We continue to support residents with crime prevention advice/support and raising awareness as we head towards the holidays. We have also completed stop checks, arrests and high visibility patrols.
we urge residents to ensure their home is protected and valuables hidden/removed if you plan on going on holiday or spending an extended time away from home.
Issue
You Said – Road Safety. With a recent increase in Road Traffic Collisions only the main arterial routes such as the A5 through our beat, the community are rightly concerned about road safety across the area. We recognise that with the winter weather set to continue for a couple of months, this will make driving conditions more hazardous requiring road users to be more considerate and careful when using the roads across the area.
Action
We Did – During the next 3 months the beat team are raising road safety as a priority to ensure that poor driving behaviours are challenged, and more collisions are prevented.
During January we have completed patrols of schools and challenged poor parking/driving habits. We have seized several vehicles throughout the month for a range of offences such as no driving licence and no tax/MOT.
We have held a meeting with local schools and as part of identifying productive solutions, we have sent a survey out to residents and parents which will be used to support us in getting action taken to improve the area. We are trying to work with partner agencies such as LCC Highways and schools, as road safety is requires a joint effort.
During February, we have put up additional signage around school areas to raise awareness, we have completed a speed awareness event on Rugby Road, Hinckley Road and Brookside (very busy for school routes) and we continue to complete events and work to reduce risk in the area.
We have visited Featherston Drive and Hinckley Road this week as part of the community speed watch. In total, 3 vehicles were caught speeding. We have also dealt with a youth/moped related incident where a section 59 and other anti-social behaviour work has been completed.
During March, we have have organised and completed an assembly at Burbage Infants where we discussed road safety and gave messages for the children to take home to parents around dangerous driving such as mobile phone use, dangerous parking, and other issues that get raised. Children at the Infants and Juniors were supplied with our safer roads book. We have completed further speed safety checks at locations raised by residents and stop checks have also been completed whilst out on patrol.
Issue
You Said – Vehicle crime has always been a concern of the residents of Burbage, recently more of you have been getting in touch to report suspicious activity linked to possible theft of motor vehicles. In addition, historically January & February have seen an increase in thefts of vehicles particularly Range Rovers or similar.
Action
We Did – We have pledged to target this issue over the next 3 months as one of our priorities.
Over the coming months we will continue to increase awareness of this issue and to provide greater crime prevention advice through the use of social media, messages on the Neighbourhood Link platform and crime prevention events across the beat.
At the time of writing, no vehicles were stolen in Burbage during January (last one was New years Eve). We have though suffered 2 reported residential burglaries that may have been targeting vehicles. We continue to raise vehicle crime as a priority to ensure residents stay alert to the threat. Support such as window alarms, RFID wallets and much more is an ongoing message and service we offer residents to target harden potential victims.
February - There has been multiple reports of theft from vehicles on the hotel car parks, this was mainly around early February. Further report of theft from vehicles within Burbage, officers attended, stop searches completed and one person was arrested. Please ensure no items are left in your vehicle and certainly not on display. Two reports of potentially attempt vehicle theft during February, again, officers attended immediately to complete area searches.
One report from the Chequers Inn car park where a cut was made to the side of a van. Thankfully no tools were on the vehicle. No further reports but please continue to be mindful.
During March, vehicle crime has been minimal other than a few reports towards the end of March where vehicle doors have been checked. Throughout March there were several sporadic reports of theft of tools from vans (mainly hotel car parks). We have responded to reports of suspicious persons and completed follow up work with residents to secure their home. We have also completed targeted patrols in Burbage which have resulted in arrests (not linked to vehicle crime). We are completing pro-active work in raising awareness around theft from vehicles (tools) as we head towards the car boot season where these items can be sold.
Issue
You Said – Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) around local parks and streets in Burbage is a cause for concern, you noted incidents of cannabis/drug use, assault, bullying, criminal damage and general rowdiness.
Concerns are that with the Easter holidays approaching young people will have more time on their hands and the warmer weather and lighter nights will encourage more people out that is likely to leader to wider ASB issues.
Action
We Did – We have recognised the concerns of the community and have made it our priority to tackle this issue. We have lots planned on the run up to the Easter break which will include assemblies to be held at Hastings High School discussing what ASB, the impact it has on the community and the consequences if caught by police.
Issue
You Said – Road safety is consistently raised as a concern around the village with a variety of concerns being raised which include pavement parking, obstruction and speeding.
Action
We Did – We acknowledge the concerns raised and have raised road safety as a priority for the first quarter of 2025.
During the next 3 months we will be actively looking to identify and deal with the offending drivers and vehicle owners.
Community speed watches will continue throughout the summer and this will be supported by the use and deployment of the Mobile Vehicle Activated Signs (MVAS) box.
Issue
You Said – Vehicle crime is occurring across the village, with the majority of reports relating to overnight thefts from vans. Hotspot areas are linked to local hotels and last year during quarter 1 police saw an increase in this type of offending.
Action
We Did – Over the coming months we seek to increase awareness across the community of this issue and to provide greater crime prevention advice through the use of social media, messages on the Neighbourhood Link platform, posters and crime prevention events across the beat.
We encourage residents and businesses to ensure they lock their cars and vans and to not leave items on show as this may make your vehicle a target to thieves.
