Current Priorities
Issue
There has been a pattern of anti-social behaviour which has been identified as a current community issue occurring in the location of Hinckley Town Centre.
Several areas have been identified as challenging locations including Castle Street, The Crescent and Sainsburys Car Park, Rugby Road, Hinckley.
The peak times anti-social behaviour is occurring is from 3pm until late in the evening on weekdays and weekends.
The anti-social behaviour involves persons accessing roofs of local business premises without permission. On occasion throwing items from the roofs and causing damage to those roofs and access points.
More recently intelligence surrounding access to derelict premises have been reported.
Information surrounding persons and vehicles acting in an anti-social manner in Sainsburys car park is currently being dealt with as a priority.
Persons being anti-social towards shop staff members and security teams on The Crescent, Hinckley.
This priority has been identified by carrying out community interactions with members of the town centre community.
Action
Local Officers conducting plain clothes anti-social behaviour patrols in Hinckley spotted a male known to have bail conditions to be indoors from 7pm and not be in the Hinckley or Burbage area. He was quickly detained and arrested and taken to custody where he was charged with burglary and sent to Court.
Other anti-social behaviour identified is linked to the night time economy and alcohol related anti-social behaviour will also be addressed. We work closely with premises reporting anti-social behaviour and will refer offenders to partner agencies.
Regular high visibility foot patrols are carried out by the team in the town centre hot spot locations.
Issue
The Hinckley Town Centre Beat Team work closely with local partners and businesses to deter and detect theft across the town.
Shop Theft is a concern to local and national retailers.
Theft from person (pickpocket) offences have also been identified as organised groups try to commit theft offences in busy town centres.
Sales of counterfeit goods has also been raised by local retailers.
This priority has been identified by carrying out community interactions with members of the town centre community.
Action
Officers from the beat team work closely with the business community in the town centre to identify and deal with retail crime offenders.
On the run up to Christmas officers will be offering crime prevention advice to retailers and carrying out high visibility foot patrols at peak times.
We work regularly with the town centre cctv team, security officers and other partner agencies to identify offences and offenders.
Issue
A number of issues have been raised around the Night Time Economy in Hinckley Town Centre and premises have identified the following -
Use of counterfeit currency in licenced premises and retail premises in the town centre.
Use of fake identification in licenced premises across the town centre.
Anti-social behaviour caused by persons previously banned from licenced premises in the town centre.
This priority has been identified by carrying out community interactions with members of the town centre community during June 2023.
Action
During November we took part in a number of events to highlight once again ‘Op Sceptre’, the National knife crime week. This is a chance for police forces across England to focus on knife crime, raising awareness of the risks and engaging with people to prevent them from carrying a weapon and protect them from others that may choose to do so. As part of the continued of knife crime Officers deployed to Asilo in Hinckley Town and set up a knife arch with all customers visiting the bar as a condition of entry. It was great to hear the overwhelming support from everyone who passed through and how safe they felt. No weapons were located throughout the duration of the operation. Officers from the beat team have been liaising with local licensed premises, and regularly attend the Hinckley and Bosworth Pub Watch Group. These meetings are held monthly and are chaired by local members of the licensed premises community.
With a busy period in the town approaching, officers regularly visits pubs, bars and restaurants offering support and advice on a number of different issues.
In previous years on the run up to Christmas we have seen an increase in the use of fake identity documents and counterfeit money.
The team also work closely with colleagues from The Hinckley BID (Hinckley Business Improvement District) and HBBC (Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council) to keep the town centre and people visiting the town centre safe.
Officers will also be visiting premises over the coming weekends to deliver anti-spiking products to a number of venues.
