• Significant industrial / employment bases – The University of Leicester is a major part of the beat, the university has roughly 22000 students attending there with a large proportion living in and around the beat in rented accommodation. There are 3 other further education colleges on the beat along with 2 junior schools and a private senior school.
Morrison’s, Odeon cinema and De Montfort hall are all on the beat.
• Industrial development – There is a large scale building development taking place at the University with 5 tower blocks and other student housing being built for 6000
• Other relevant local factors – Victoria Park is a popular location, this is the location for the Caribbean Carnival, Pride Parade, outdoor concerts and also large scale events and fairs. The O2 is popular with traveling bands as is De Montfort Hall.

Current Priorities

Issue

Anti-social behaviour in the area of the shops on Queens Road. Some incidents relate to drug or alcohol use and others relate to rowdy behaviour.

Action

We have massively increased our presence in this area during the day and have seen a reduction in ASB. We have also had some success with enforcement action involving the use of drugs. We will continue to patrol this vibrant area, but are closing this priority down at the end of December.

Issue

Anti-social behaviour, including rowdy behaviour in the area of Victoria Park.

Action

We have carried out extra patrols in this area and several drivers have been issued with warnings under Section 59 Police Reform Act regarding their manner of driving on the Granville Road car park.
We have also taken action against people riding e-scooters (cannot be used at all in public places) and e-bikes (some are legal and have the same privileges as cycles; others are not legal for use in public places), with a combination of education and enforcement.

Issue

We are going to work towards reducing burglary offences in the area, by carrying out prevention and educational work.

Action

We have done a lot of extra work to prevent burglaries since the students arrived at the end of September and this area of work has become part of our daily business.
With every engagement event we carry out, we provide crime prevention advice. You can sign up to Neighbourhood Link in order to receive such advice and more by email - go to www.neighbourhoodlink.co.uk
This priority will be closed down at the end of December.

Issue

Burglaries at business premises in the area of Queens Road.

Action

This is a new priority for the January to March period. Look out for updates towards the end of January.

Issue

The use of e-scooters and e-bikes across Clarendon Park. E-scooters cannot be ridden in any public place (unless part of a government trial, which Leicester are not). Some e-bikes are legal and enjoy the same privileges as pedal cycles, some are too powerful and cannot be ridden in any public place.

Action

This is a new priority for the January to March period. Look out for updates towards the end of January.
