Update: 22 November 2024 - National road safety week
This week is National road safety week which has been organised by the Vision Zero South West road safety partnership.
Last year, 48 people were killed and 702 seriously injured on Devon & Cornwall’s roads. These aren’t just numbers – these are people’s loved ones and family members, parents, children, brothers, sisters, friends.
Each one of these fatal and serious collisions has a devastating impact on those involved and the wider community - and that is why we work so hard to reduce these figures. All of Vision Zero’s members have made a commitment to reduce the number of fatal and serious collisions on Devon and Cornwall’s roads by 50% by 2030 – and eventually, to zero.
Our Braunton and Knowle Community Speed Watch team took part on Wednesday 20th November. The team of volunteers spent 8 hours monitoring the speed of vehicles at 8 Police approved locations in Braunton, Knowle and Saunton. A total of 1988 vehicles were monitored and details of 53 of these vehicles who were caught speeding were inputted on to the CSW database where the registered keepers of the vehicles will soon be receiving a letter in the post.
An outstanding effort by the team spending so many hours on a very cold day, giving up their own time to help reduce the speed of vehicles using the roads in our community.
