Issue

Anti-Social Behaviour Night Time Economy and Coastal

It is a local priority to tackle ASB caused on land by night time economy but also on the water.

In addition to pro-active Police patrols we are robustly engaging with Designated Premises Supervisors, Police Licensing Departments and Environmental Health to promote, maintain and where applicable enforce the safe and sensible consumption of alcohol.

Utilising Pub Watch and other schemes we are identifying the repeat problem individuals. Those individuals are then subject to banning / restriction orders as appropriate.

We are working with partners to educate, encourage, explain issues of ASB raised whilst on the water and where necessary enforce this working in conjunction with #Coastsafe.

We are working with Safer Scilly to educate our community with signposting agencies that can assist.

We are looking to set our priorities specifically to the local needs of the community and visitors to the Isles of Scilly and these have now been updated accordingly.  We are working with our partners on the specific issues and are working collaboratively as part of our membership with Safer Scilly.    Work is already being undertaken for some new initiatives for the 2025 season... watch this space.  #Coastsafe

Update: 07 October 2024 - End of the Season

As we reach the end of the Summer period the weather and darker evenings tend to reduce the ASB on the IOS.   We will continue to monitor and deal with any reports of ASB.   In our recent Safer Scilly Meeting ASB was discussed and the importance of having a collaborative approach to understanding the reasons for this and how we can work to prevent ASB going forward.   We were happy to report a decline in ASB reporting over the last 6 months.

Update: 20 August 2024 - High Visibility Patrols

ASB is a concern to our local communities and we continue to patrol hot spot areas where concerns are raised about Anti Social Behaviour.  We continue to work closely with our partners to problem solve any concerns along with looking at initiatives on how ASB can be prevented.

Part of the prevention to ASB is being visible and this includes meeting visitors to the Islands when they arrive by Sea and Air this allows for early positive interaction with the public.   You will regularly see officers on the Quay to meet the Scillonian or at the Airport meeting our visitors who have come across by plane or helicopter.

Update: 14 June 2024 - ASB on the Water

Last week we were joined by Border Force to carry out a joint operation with regards to Immigration and Maritime crime along with looking at any issues with regards to ASB on the water.   High visibility patrols were carried out in a RHIB and 2 x Jet Skis to allow for a large proportion of the Islands to be covered.

A very successful operation.
