Current Priorities

Issue

1. Retail theft
2. Anti-Social Behaviour involving Vehicles
3. Illegal Vape sales see town centre shop temporarily closed

Action

1. Your local neighbourhood team have been working hard to prevent prolific offenders from committing further crimes and Anti-social behaviour (ASB), with the use of criminal behaviour orders (CBO’s). The police can utilise CBOs to tackle the most serious and persistent offenders, including shop lifters. Once in place, if the terms of the CBOs are breached, additional sentencing powers can be used, which include custodial sentences. The local Safer Neighbourhood Team have been continuing to liaise with local shops and hold crime prevention events, such as property marking, and burglary follow ups to stop people becoming repeat victims of crime. We continue to work closely with trading standards to ensure shops are being appropriately monitored, and if necessary prosecuted, if they are not abiding by trading standards law.
2. We are aware that groups of young males and females are using vehicles in an anti-social manner, including racing vehicles, sudden rapid acceleration and revving their engines. This careless and inconsiderate driving (particularly in and around the Waitrose and Pavilion Gardens carparks) will not be tolerated. We will be checking vehicles and issuing Section 59 warnings to drivers. If these drivers are dealt with again for anti-social use of a vehicle within 12 months of the warning, their vehicle will be seized.
3. Buxton Safer Neighbourhood team were successful in gaining a 3 month closure order for Buxton Bargains due to repeated sales of vapes to underage children. Staff at Buxton Bargains had been warned previously that their actions could result in a closure, but failed to comply with regulations. We continue to work with trading standards to ensure all laws are adhered to, and will take action where necessary
