Issue
Drug misuse and ASB in Kendal town centre
Action
Increase in foot patrols and targeted stop searches in locations reported to us.
Working in partnership with other agencies such as housing and Westmorland and Furness council.
Conduct Street safes in the problem areas, take positive action against those responsible
Operation Enhance aims to target this kind of activity and sees extra police patrols in areas identified as hotspots for anti-social behaviour and/or serious violence.
Between 01.06.24 and 12/10/24 we have conducted Regular patrols in an around the town centre. Officers have conducted 154 Stop searches, 111 of which were related to drugs misuse.
Issue
Anti-social behaviour caused by youths on the old Clarks shoes site, Natland Road.
Information from residents and members of the public and reports of damage and burglary from owners of the site.
Action
We will be patrolling the area and liaising with local residents and the owners of the site.
NPT patrols targeted the area and were able to identify some of the children involved. Action taken divert these children away from their poor behaviour and the issue has now been resolved with ASB in the area reduced to virtually nil.
Issue
Retail thefts.
Information from business owners and crimes recorded.
Action
Additional patrols on foot in town centres.
Work with other forces to identify suspects.
Work with Retail against Crime to identify suspects.
Offer help, support and advice to businesses to prevent crime.
Between 01/06/24 and 12/10/24 we have conducted regular uniformed patrols alongside some targeted operations. In this period we have arrested 19 people for shoplifting and charged 7 people to court. Others have been dealt with by way of out of court disposals and other investigations continue.
