Current Priorities

Issue

Issues with vehicles exceeding the 30-mph speed limit through the village of Shap

Action

We will be a high visibility in this area of concerns around key times. Enforcement or words of advice will be given depending on the nature of the issue. We will carry out speed checks when able to. We are also working with Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service who are the lead organisation to deliver educational inputs to young drivers; this has been done on a night time in hot spot areas or via school educational input. Shap PCSO has also been in to do an input with Mini Police at Shap Primary School regarding road safety and as a treat allowed them to test and check the speed of motorists through Shape villages.
We continue to offer advice where needed to motorists. We are continuing our work with the Mini Police.
We have jointly assessed the road with highways, and no excessive speeding issue has been identified. Highways are re-assessing the carriageway with a view to installing new signage and road markings.

Road Safety

Action

Issued multiple Traffic Offence Reports across the area for speeding, mobile phone use, unnecessary obstruction and other road traffic offences.
Road safety across the locality raised and discussed at the monthly Road Safety Partnership, to identify trends and seek multi-agency longer term solutions.
We are continuing to work with the road safety partnership on the issues raised above to make further improvements.
Issues have been raised in the following areas Clifton, Clifton Dykes, Greystoke. We are collating further data and working with agencies to get a better understanding of these issues.
This area will now be subjected to enhanced police enforcement and partnership assessment.
