Current Priorities
Issue
Shopwatch scheme has been introduced in Yate which a number of local shops have signed up to. This scheme allows shop owners involved to share information about current shoplifters.
Shoplifters identified are then banned from the shops under the scheme. If they continue to commit offences Yate NPT will then consider using Anti-social Behaviour powers to address their criminal activity.
06/05/21 - Shopwatch is working well amongst local shops.
Action
We continue to work with those shops involved and look to target repeat offenders by way of banning them from the stores. This is an on going commitment between police and shop retailers.
Issue
Yate Neighbourhood Officers will be looking to engage with riders/owners of E-Scooters to educate them on the legislation around their usage.
At present E-Scooters can only be used on private land to which the public does not have access without legal restriction.
They cannot be used on footpaths, pavements, bridleways, cycle lanes or other spaces dedicated to cycle use.If used on a road they must be registered, licensed, taxed and the rider also licensed and insured.
For further information please contact you local NPT officers
06/05/21 - NPT officers have engaged with a number of people seen using e-scooters around Yate and educated them on the above legislation. This will continue over coming months
Action
Neighbourhood police teams continue to monitor this when out on patrol in the Yate area.
Issue
Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) is about you and your neighbours, coming together to have a say in the issues that matter to you in your community. We have been committed to supporting.
Neighbourhood Watch throughout our force since its introduction in 1982.
There are many benefits to being part of a Neighbourhood Watch scheme for you and your local community:- It shows that members of a community are looking out for each other.
- It keeps you up to date with what’s going on in your area.
- Working closely with the police helps to prevent and tackle crime.
- You could save money on your home insurance.
Action
We continue to work with the NHW group in this area and have spoken with a local council member today to confirm that ASB has reduced recently. We continue to monitor this.
Issue
Parking at Woodlands Primary School is making things difficult for local residents pulling out of side roads. Parents cars are blocking access and parking on zig zag lines at drop off times.
Action
Neighbourhood officers continue to patrol this school during drop off/pick up times and certainly when police are present we don’t seem to have any major issues. Will continue with patrol.
Issue
Over this summer a large group of youths have caused ASB in and around Yate shopping Centre mostly around Tesco store.
This includes large gatherings, climbing on the shop roofs and running in and out of shops as well as shouting abuse at members of the public.
Action
2 Youths have now been given injunctions with conditions. Other youths continue to engage with police and we look to further reduce ASB in this area.
